Under these agreements, Electricite de France (EDF) and its 45%-owned subsidiary EnBW will have access to underground salt caverns with a storage capacity of 400 million cubic meters for a 35-year period.

EDF and EnBW will also manage the project to build a gas compression facility close to the storage site, whose construction and maintenance will be entrusted to IVG Immobilien.

In addition, the companies will become members of the consortium building the 56 kilometer gas pipeline connecting the Etzel storage site to the Dutch natural gas transport network.

EDF said that its joint venture with EnBW is an important step forward in the group’s strategic development as a gas player in North-Western Europe.
