The turbines, which were ordered through EDF Energies Nouvelles’s (EDF EN) US arm enXco, amount to a total capacity of 88MW. The company was prompted to order the new turbines based on its expansion forecasts in the US wind energy sector.

The 2MW wind turbines will be supplied by German manufacturer REpower, one of EDF EN’s leading suppliers in Europe and the US. The first 35 turbines will be delivered in 2008 and the remainder in 2009.

EDF EN said that this order follows a series of orders placed with General Electric and REpower for a total of 867MW in capacity, including 498MW for projects to be built in the US in 2007.

With this additional order, the balance outstanding (369MW) is now increasing to 457MW for 2008 and 2009, the company said.
