Located in the Extremadura region in the south-west of Spain, the Casatejada ground-based solar power plant is equipped with 152,400 photovoltaic panels, based on thin-film technology, supplied by First Solar.
According to the company, the power plant annual output is equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 11,000 people. The plant is 90%-owned by the EDF Energies Nouvelles via Fotosolar, its local solar energy subsidiary.
Following the recent commissioning of the power plants of Arnprior (23.4MWp) in Canada and La Roseraye (10.5MWp) on Reunion Island, EDF Energies Nouvelles signs at Casatejada another large-scale photovoltaic project. The company’s solar energy capacity in Spain now stands at 18.1MWp gross.
With operations in Europe and North America, EDF Energies Nouvelles is engaged in green electricity production. With a development focused on wind energy for several years and more recently on solar photovoltaic, the group is also present in other segments of the renewable energies market: small hydro, marine energy, biomass, biofuel and biogas.
In addition, the group is expanding in the distributed renewable energies sector. EDF Energies Nouvelles is 50 %-owned by the EDF Group.
