According to the company, located close to the Spanish border in north-western Portugal, the Ventominho project comprises 120 wind turbines, the final ones of which have now entered service. The 2MW wind turbines were supplied by German manufacturer Enercon.

This plant comprises a set of five interconnected sub-farms across 30km, with a single point of connection to the electricity grid. EDF EN Portugal, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), and Eolverde, a subsidiary of Endesa, jointly own 85% of the project.

David Corchia, CEO of EDF EN, said: “We are delighted to count Europe’s wind farm among our achievements. It also shows our commitment and our moves to establish positions in the Portuguese market.”

EDF Energies Nouvelles, a 50%-owned subsidiary of the EDF group, is a player in wind power and produces green electricity. Since 2007, the company is also exploring in solar photovoltaic. Its aim is to have 4,000 MW net by late 2012, all segments combined, including 500 MWp in solar photovoltaic, claims the company.
