Southwest Wind Consulting, the Community Energy Developers Board and Lincoln County Enterprise Development Corp jointly developed the wind project, that started in November 2010.
EMG invested $58m to construct the Community Wind North project that consists of 12 units of 2.5MW Clipper turbine.
The wind power project, located in Lincoln County, will produce enough power to meet the energy needs of about 10,000 homes.
The electricity generated by the power project is being sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to Xcel Energy’s Northern States Power.
Northern States Power’s PPA has been approved by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.
EMG said the project has benefited from nearly $3m in US Department of Agriculture grants, and also will benefit the local and state economies through about $28m in taxes and fees paid for the next two decades.
