The shutdown was due to the loss of lubricating oil from the steam turbine located in the non-nuclear part of the plant. The FANC has been informed and came on site to perform the necessary findings. On inspection it appeared that the incident occurred at the discharge valve of the lubricating oil tank that was open, probably due to a voluntary manual intervention.
Electrabel evaluates with the competent authorities all follow-up actions to be taken as a result of this incident. The employees of the nuclear power plant are continuing their investigations on the extent of the steam turbine damage and the measures necessary to safely restart Doel 4 as soon as possible.
