The main aim of the project is the execution of scrubbing tests under real flue gas conditions with different chemical solvents. Electrabel and E.ON Kraftwerke will integrate the test facility in their power plants, so as to perform the test programs under real conditions. The relatively large scale of the test installation is expected to deliver reliable data to allow scale-up.
The test facility will reportedly be able to treat up to 5,000 cubic meters of flue gas per hour under real conditions and will reportedly be operated for four years on sites owned by Electrabel and E.ON Kraftwerke.
Electrabel and E.ON Kraftwerke want to maintain a high fuel flexibility in the future. In this framework, they are seeking to build knowledge and hands-on experience in post combustion capture, to improve this process and prepare for the subsequent scale-up for post-combustion capture on new or existing plants.
