Presently ElectraLink provides the UK’s interoperability layer for traditional meter data and would use EnergyIP to extend its capabilities to smart meter systems. This would enable the exchange of dual fuel smart meter data used to drive critical business processes such as registration, installation, settlements, billing and customer operations.

EnergyIP would process smart meter interval data and events, such as new customer registrations, and communicate them in real-time or as needed to UK market participants. This enables higher levels of customer service for fundamental operations, such as customer service requests, connection/disconnection and billing. EnergyIP’s software architecture enables it to be the platform for linking smart meter suppliers and grid technologies with energy retailers and network operators business information systems.

The UK government is due to complete smart meter deployment by 2020. Its specific implementing regulations are still under development, creating a requirement for an adaptable solution that would meet changing regulatory conditions.

Dave Mutton, chief executive officer of ElectraLink, said: “ElectraLink evaluated the major meter data management products available and considered EnergyIP to be the one that best met the requirements of the deregulated UK market. We chose eMeter’s software because of its proven ability to handle the complexities of a market which includes multiple retailers, network businesses and other market participants during a significant period of transition. We were impressed with their success to date in other competitive markets, such as the Province of Ontario in Canada and the state of Texas.”
