Awarded by the plant’s primary contractor, Daelim Industrial, the $11m contract requires Emerson to install its Ovation control system at the units, which will enhance the plant’s capacity to 6,100MW, making it the largest in the country.

The system is expected to monitor and control all major plant components at each of the two units, including the BHK boiler and Hitachi turbine.

Under the contract, the company will also supply process-optimization technologies and a high-fidelity simulator for testing and training purposes.

Daelim Industrial instrumentation and control senior lead engineer Y.S Park said, "Based on Emerson’s expertise and its ample resources in this region, we are confident the Ovation automation solution will help us meet the Taean plant’s project and operational requirements."

Ovation technology has already been selected for over half of the 1,000MW, ultra-supercritical units in Asia, including five of South Korea’s six largest coal-fired power plants.
