Scheduled to be commissioned in December 2016, the New Creek project will feature 45 Gamesa G90-2.1 MW turbines and four G90-2.0 MW turbines.

Gamesa plans to install and commission the turbines at the site over the course of 2016. The company will operate and maintain the facility for five years.

White Construction will build the power plant under a fixed-price engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract. The project is supported by renewable energy credit (REC) sales and off take agreements.

Enbridge senior vice-president, corporate planning and chief development officer Vern Yu said: "With strong fundamentals and commercial underpinnings, the New Creek Wind Project is a strong fit within our low-risk value proposition, and advances a key corporate priority of growing our renewable generation platform."

This acquisition increases Enbridge’s investment in renewable power sector to nearly C$5bn ($3.75bn) since 2002.

Earlier this month, Enbridge agreed to acquire 24.9% stake in the 400MW Rampion offshore wind project, off the south coast of England, from E.ON for C$750m ($569.8m).

Enbridge currently holds interests in almost 2GW of net renewable and alternative generating capacity.
