Offshore wind

The wind farm, which covers an area of 39km² at a water depth of 39m to 40m, was acquired from the consortium partners STRABAG and the Norderland/ETANAX Group.

The Albatros project has a permit to install 79 turbines with a capacity of 5MW to 7MW.

Albatros will be constructed adjacent to EnBW’s Hohe See project offering synergies in the construction and operating phases.

The acquisition brings EnBW’s total offshore portfolio to over 1,600MW in the German sector of the North Sea.

EnBW chief executive officer Frank Mastiaux said: "We are expanding our offshore wind portfolio with the acquisition of the Albatros project and thus continuing to push forward our EnBW 2020 strategy.

"The offshore wind sector will play a significant role in achieving our goal of more than tripling the area of renewable energies by 2020."

In a separate press release, EnBW revealed that it has signed the first network reserve capacity contracts in Germany for the power plant units in Marbach and Walheim.

The contracts with the transmission network operator TransnetBW will initially be valid until 31 March 2018.

The deals regulate the deployment of the power plants and the reimbursement of costs for their maintenance and operation.
