The wind project will be located approximately 32km north of the island of Rugen in the western Baltic and cover an area of approximately 27sqkm. First maritime civil works are scheduled to commence by 2012.

EnBW Baltic 2 will have a total capacity 288MW. It will generate 1,200GWh of electricity annually for approximately 340,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by 900,000 tons.

Hans-Josef Zimmer, chief technical officer and member of management board of EnBW, said: “EnBW Baltic 2 will be approximately six times bigger than EnBW Baltic 1. And this expansion will continue: EnBW is planning to build a total of four offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of approximately 1,200MW in the Baltic and North Sea.”
