Authorized electricity traders will have access to information on this platform about the available transmission capacities on the UHV lines in this border area, and will be able to reserve free-of-charge available capacities one hour, or in exceptional circumstances even 15 minutes, in advance via the internet platform.

Through this simplification of the cross-border electricity trade, as well as the associated significant simplification of international competition in the liberalized electricity market, EnBW Transportnetze said that it is also complying with one of the requests of the Federal Network Agency.

According to the company, the new automatic reservation system is comparable to online banking and is the only one in Europe to date due to its efficiency and flexibility. By taking both transmission directions into consideration simultaneously, it ensures that the maximum transmission capacity is available at all times. The system replaces the previous time-consuming, manual procedure, which only enabled capacities to be reserved on the phone and in consultation with EnBW Transportnetze.
