The well is being drilled using the Transocean Galaxy II heavy duty jack-up rig.
The main objectives of the well are to establish if hydrocarbons are present in the Tay and Cromarty sands.
The well, which is being managed by drilling services provider Applied Drilling Technology International, will also drill a deeper, high risk, Jurassic aged Fulmar sand target.
EnCore holds a 15% equity interest in the Block 28/9 and is its operator.
