The maturity of the Dutch electricity market, in terms of its liberalization and competition, reportedly makes it very attractive for Endesa. The creation of organized electricity markets such as the APX and Endex enable the firm to purchase energy for its customers in a flexible and transparent manner.

The Spanish utility is providing energy for large customers in the Netherlands via its supply company, Endesa Energia. Endesa claimed that it established itself as one of the leading European suppliers of large customers with a sales volume of 4,017GWh in 2007.

In 2008, Endesa has added offices in Amsterdam to its existing offices in Lisbon, Porto, Paris and Frankfurt, increasing its capacity to provide global supply services to customers in Europe.

Endesa noted that it is one of the first European electric utilities to roll out commercial operations in liberalized energy markets.
