The company has begun work on the 97MW Carrera Pinto solar photovoltaic (PV) power facility in the Atacama region with an investment of $180m.

Owned by Enel Green Power Chile subsidiary Parque Solar Carrera Pinto, the power plant will be commissioned in the second half of 2016.

Upon completion, the Carrera Pinto facility will have an annual power generation capacity of more than 260 GWh, which will be delivered to Sistema Interconectado Central (SIC), the Chile’s Central Region Transmission Network.

Power generated from the facility will be sold to Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA (Endesa Chile) under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Meanwhile, EGP also started construction of the 79MW Pampa Norte photovoltaic plant in the municipality of Taltal, Antofagasta, Chile.

Supported by a long-term PPA with Endesa Chile, the new solar power plant project will generate more than 200 GWh of clean electricity per year which will be transferred to SIC.

In addition to operating 340MW of wind power projects and 136MW of solar power plants in Chile, EGP runs 92MW of two hydroelectric plants in the region.
