Owned by Enel Green Power Mexico’s subsidiary Energia Limpia de Palo Alto, the wind farm will increase EGP’s wind capacity to over 600MW.
The wind farm will have 43 wind turbines of 3MW each and will be capable of producing 350GWh of clean energy annually, while curbing 200,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
The electricity generated at the project will be equivalent to the annual energy required to power more than 200,000 Mexican households.
Long-term power purchase agreements have been signed for the project, which is expected to be become operational in the second half of 2016.
EGP CEO Francesco Venturini said: "In line with our growth strategy in Latin America, Mexico is, alongside Chile and Brazil, one of the countries in which we have decided to focus our investments for the next five years, with the aim of boosting sustainable energy while both diversifying the country’s energy mix and supporting the local economy."
Additionally, EGP has obtained the ownership of 445 MW of wind power capacity in Portugal, a move that increased the company’s Portuguese portfolio to 642MW.
This follows split of Eolicas de Portugal in which company indirectly owned a minority stake.
Earlier this month, Enel Green Power agreed to divest its Portuguese unit Finerge Gestão de Projectos Energéticos to First State Wind Energy Investments for €900m ($1bn).
