The hydro project, which forms a part of the growth targets set out in the 2013-2017 Enel Green Power business plan, requires a total investment of around $287m.

The Apiacás complex will house three power plants, including Salto Apiacás, Cabeza de Boi and Fazenda, having seven turbines of around 14.5MW capacity each.

Set to become operational in the first half of 2016, the project is expected to generate 490GWh of clean energy annually and help the country to meet its growing energy demand.

The energy generated at the project will be delivered to the national grid, under a 30-year power purchase agreement.

Additionally, the company will install a 1.2MW thin-film photovoltaic facility at the hydroelectric complex to lower power consumption.

The hydro complex is owned by Enel Green Power Cabeza de Boi, Enel Green Power Fazenda and Enel Green Power Salto Apiacás.

Enel Green Power currently has around 210MW of installed capacity in Brazil, of which 93MW comes from hydro and remaining from wind power.
