Located in the state of Oaxaca, the wind farm features 34 3MW turbines that will generate about 390 GWh of energy per year.
The energy generated from the wind farm will be delivered to the Mexican national electricity grid via the nearby Ixtepec Potencia substation.
Enel Green Power invested about $160m in the wind farm. BBVA Bancomer Group has provided $100m loan for the project, which has a 20-year power purchase agreement.
The company won the right to build the project after a public tender held by Mexican state utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
Enel subsidiary Energías Renovables La Mata holds the Sureste I-Phase II wind farm, which takes the company’s Mexican installed capacity to 399MW, of which 346MW is generated from via wind power and 53MW through hydro.
In 2014, Enel Green Power connected to the grid the 100MW Dominica I wind farm in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi
The company has an installed capacity of about 9.6GW from a mix of sources including wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal and biomass. It operates around 740 plants in 15 countries.
