The $140m wind farm, which will feature 32 turbines, is expected to start operations in the first half of 2015.

The facility will generate more than 160 GWh of energy a year, enough to serve around 60,000 households in Chile, and reduce over 130,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

EGP was awarded the project in November 2013 following a tender, which carried out for Chile’s Central Region Transmission Network (SIC).

The Talinay Poniente wind farm will connect to SIC’s transmission grid and supply energy to regulated market customers.

The wind farm will be located near the 90MW Talinay Oriente wind farm, which started commercial operations in 2013.

EGP owns and operates 180MW in installed wind capacity in Chile, as well as two hydro plants totaling 92MW.

The company is constructing the 99MW Taltal wind farm and three solar plants totaling 136MW in Chile.

EGP also owns 100MW in geothermal exploration concessions in the country.

Earlier in 2014, EGP completed the 90MW Valle de los Vientos wind farm, located in the II Region of Antofagasta in Chile.
