The Energex upgrade project will include the installation of two new 33kV power lines from the Myrtletown substation on Priors Road to the Luggage Point treatment plant. The upgrade to the power supply will also reportedly improve power reliability for businesses in the area.

Work to upgrade the electricity supply is expected to be completed by April 2008. Energex said that associated works will take place in the Priors Road, Bancroft Street, Gannon Road, Sandmere Road and Marine Road areas of Brisbane.

The project will include excavating the western end of Bancroft Road to lay underground 11kV power cables, making room for the 33kV powerlines.

The project is part of a A$4 billion-plus five-year capital expenditure program being undertaken by Energex. In the 2007-08 financial year, Energex is investing around A$800 million on upgrades to its electricity network while a further A$300 million-plus has been set aside to maintain and operate the network.
