The €14m wind farm, owned by Energia Renewables and the Irish Infrastructure Fund, features four wind turbines. Main body of the facility’s four turbines has a height of 64.5m and a rotor blade diameter of 70m.
The wind farm is expected to accommodate the power needs of 9,200 homes at its full generating capacity.
Energia Renewables managing director Peter Baillie was quoted by Irish Examiner as saying that the project received support from the local community.
"The development of Caherdowney is a very positive step forward for renewable energy in Ireland and local support for the project is a key element to their success," Baillie added.
"As part of our commitment to the environment, Energia Renewables has invested €200m in developing renewable sources of energy."
"Our most recent projects are at Corkermore and Drumlough Hill wind farms in Co Donegal, and Crighshane and Church Hill in Co Tyrone.
Irish Infrastructure Fund has the majority stake in wind farm and the remainder is held by Energia Renewables.
