Nordex Turbine

The €145m project will feature 38 Nordex N90 turbines that generate more than 255 gigawatt hours of energy per year, enough to power some 70,000 homes.

A new €11m substation will be built as part of the project to strengthen the electricity network in Donegal.

Energia is currently developing about 300MW of wind projects, including the Meenadreen Extension.

The company’s existing operational wind portfolio amounts to 795 MW, including plants owned by third parties, for which it has power purchase agreements in place.

Energia Renewables managing director Peter Baillie said: "The development of this new wind farm is a very positive step forward for renewable energy in Ireland and this is something that is very important to us.

"Energia currently supplies over 795MWs of renewable energy to homes and businesses across Ireland. We are on track to supply over 1,000MWs by the middle of this decade.

"All of our wind farm developments bring significant benefits to the local economies, including job creation, construction suppliers, increased rates for the local authorities and improvements to local infrastructure such as roads."
