Kursk nuclear power plant is located 40 km west of Kursk, on the bank of Seim River with the satellite-city Kurchatov located three km from the plant. Kursk nuclear power plant has four RBMK-1000 reactors (1000 megawatt each) and is building new ones. The unit 1 at the station was launched in 1976, unit 2 in 1979, unit 3 in 1983 and unit 4 in 1985. Kursk nuclear power plant is among four electricity producers in Russia.
