Balikesir WPP employs around 52 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.75MW using General Electric technology. The wind power facility is expected to generate about 524GWh of electricity.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has provided a loan worth €135m, which was employed in the construction of the wind power plant.

Sabanci chairman Güler Sabanci said that the company has increased its wind power installed capacity to 212MW together with Balikesir WPP after Çanakkale and Dagpazari wind power plants.

E.ON board member Jorgen Kildahl said, inauguration of Balikesir WPP demonstrates that Enerjisa is working hard to meet Turkey’s rising energy demand with climate-friendly technology.

"Balikesir WPP is also another important milestone along Enerjisa’s path toward building up to 7.5 gigawatts of generating capacity by 2020."

Enerjisa, along with Sabanci Holding and E.ON partnership, is aiming to have 7,500MW installed capacity and to serve over 6 million distribution customers by 2020.
