The purchase includes the 580MW combined-cycle gas-turbine (CCGT) generation facility and 50% of the facility’s common assets.

The company plans to construct a new natural gas pipeline to Power Block 2 and a transmission system by 2013, to incorporate the natural gas-fired plant into its system.

The upgrades are in line with Entergy’s 2011-2013 transmission construction plan to enhance reliability for the region.

Entergy Louisiana president and chief executive officer Bill Mohl said the addition of the Acadia Power Block 2 facility will improve power flows and ease the load on the high-voltage lines stretching across the Atchafalaya Basin.

Last year, Cleco Power acquired Acadia Energy Center’s Power Block 1 and the other 50% interest in the facility’s common assets. Cleco Power will serve as the operator of the entire facility.

The Acadia Energy Center commenced operations in 2002 and uses modern pollution controls and CCGT technology to produce clean and reliable power.

Entergy’s Louisiana utility companies serve more than one million customers through the operating companies Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana.
