The 690MW nuclear plant is the only operating station in the US state of Massachusetts, located in the Manomet section of Plymouth on Cape Cod Bay, south of the tip of Rocky Point and north of Priscilla Beach.

Constructed by Bechtel and operated by Entergy, the plant provides about 14% of the states power needs.

Entergy spokeswoman Carol Wightman was quoted by Patriot Ledger as saying that the capacity was cut to 80% in order to carry out the repair work.

The company decided to operate the Pilgrim station at a reduced capacity, following two shutdowns reported in the month of January 2013.

The plant was first shutdown from January 10 to January 17 due to the failure of an electrical relay to one of the plant’s two water recirculation pumps.

The plant was again closed for the second time from January 21 to January 22 to repair the safety valve leak.

The time period to resume full production capacity at the station was not revealed.
