The transmission lines that provide offsite power to the Massachusetts-based reactor, are owned by the regional utility, Nstar.

Wightman was quoted by Wicked Local Plympton as saying that the company will use the time to conduct maintenance that cannot be performed while the plant is functional.

”The plant will return to service following NStar’s restoration of offsite power and the completion of maintenance,” Wightman added.

NStar spokesman Michael Durand attributed the shut down to break down of a pole which was installed as part of a substation upgrade in Carver in May 2013.

”The pole breaking led to the transmission line coming out of service,” Durand added.

Nstar had already removed the second 345-kV line from service for planned maintenance last week, leaving the plant to now operate on on generator power, according to the news agency.
