The proposed project will help the country achieve its goal of having 600MW of solar and wind power by 2016.

The solar plant will be funded by Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources via a grant from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

Enviromena Power Systems CEO Sami Khoreibi was quoted by Gulf News as saying: "This is the largest project Enviromena has been awarded to date and is indicative of the growth of our company and the regional market.

"The project is very significant and puts the company in the global rank. We look forward to it."

Enviromena is claimed to have the largest installed capacity of solar PV projects in the Middle East and North Africa with over 30 developments in six countries, totalling more than 40MW.

The company also has projects in Mauritania, Oman, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Bloomberg reported that Jordan’s National Electric Power will sign a separate $400m contract with Saudi Arabian firm ACWA Power for construction of a 480MW plant, which will replace the existing Hussein thermal power station in the Red Sea port of Aqaba.
