The divested portfolio includes seven ground mounted solar facilities that were built between 2010 and 2013.

Around 70% of the capacity is installed on the island of Sardinia. The facilities are located in Sicily, Sardinia, Calabria, Apulia, Lazio and Emilia Romagna.

E.ON said the solar plants benefit from favorable solar regimes and will generate stable cash flows in the long-term.

Both the firms did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.

F2i SGR has been engaged in the Italian photovoltaic PV sector since 2009. Its unit Holding Fotovoltaica (HFV) has 89MW of solar assets under management.

The company will merge the acquired plants with HFV at a later stage.

F2i CEO Renato Ravanelli said: "This transaction represents a further step forward in F2i’s strategy designed to operate in sectors with highly fragmented ownership, with the objective to foster the creation of larger, more efficient and profitable players through an active portfolio management."

F2i has recently acquired 70% stake of Edens, now E2i Energie Speciali, from Edison. Edens operates several wind energy projects in Italy, with about 600MW of installed capacity.

The company also holds majority stake in the Alerion Group, a company which owns plants with more than 200MW of installed capacity.
