B. Metzler Seel Sohn & Co. analyst Daniel Seidenspinner told the news agency, "Even state-of-the-art gas-fired power plants cannot be operated profitably. It highlights the huge change of the energy landscape."

E.ON owns 50.2% of the power plant, which according the three other shareholders, does not cover its own operating costs and should run only during times of peak demand.
