As reported, the new gas-fired plant, to be built in High Marnham in Nottinghamshire, will be of the same capacity as the recently shelved coal-fired plant. The plant will have an installed capacity of 1,600MW, which could power approximately two million households.

The German utility has submitted a statement outlining the plans for the gas-fired plant to Nottinghamshire County Council. A full planning application is expected in 2010. The company has begun a scoping study to construct the power plant.

Earlier, the company stated that due to a decline in the electricity demand, the investment decision on the Kingsnorth proposals to build the coal-fired plant will be delayed for up to three years.
