The grants will be used to fund the projects to advance the goals and objectives of the GLRI action plan, developed by EPA and 15 other federal agencies in 2010.

The funds will be provided for the Michigan Technological University, Macatawa Area Coordinating Council, Central Michigan University, Les Cheneaux Watershed Council, Northeast Michigan Council of Governments, and City of Whitehall.

The funds will also be allocated to Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Michigan Department of Community Health and the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment.

The GLRI action plan, will include cleaning up toxics and toxic hot spot areas of concern, combating invasive species, promoting near-shore health by protecting watersheds from polluted runoff and restoring wetlands and other habitats.
