The new contract worth about EUR90m has been signed for 10-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract, and will be effective from the end of March 2013.

Under the new contract, Alstom will upgrade the existing GT26 gas turbine with its new technology for the fleet – the MXL2 turbine blade and components.

The installation is expected to be completed by 2014 and makes Bang Bo as the first GT26 power plant in Thailand to receive the upgrade.

In addition, Alstom will provide permanent employees on site to operate the power plant and carry out all planned and unplanned maintenance at the site.

Alstom Thermal Services senior vice president Hans-Peter Meer said the new agreement resembles the company’s competitiveness in the gas turbine after sales market in Thailand.

"This upgrade will not only increase the capacity, efficiency and operational flexibility of the power plant but will also extend intervals between major inspections," Meer added.

Built by Alstom in 2000, the 350 MW Bang Bo project includes a combined cycle power plant developed on the basis of Alstom’s GT26 gas turbine.
