The substation upgrade, which commenced in March 2007, was designed to meet the growing electricity needs of more than 3,000 customers in Goolwa, Hindmarsh Island, Currency Creek and Middleton.
Sue Filby, general manager of services at ETSA Utilities, said that the works formed a key part of the organization’s annual summer preparations.
Ms Filby said: Summer is a critical time for ETSA Utilities. Extreme weather conditions, coupled with increased demand for electricity, can put extra pressure on our distribution network. The upgrade of the Goolwa substation included the installation of two new larger capacity transformers, a 66kV circuit breaker and the creation of two additional 11kV feeders.
