Evergreen Solar and Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC) are working together to install pilot photovoltaic (PV) systems on schools, municipal buildings and other sites in communities served by municipal utilities.

These installations will reportedly serve to promote renewable energy and serve as a visual statement of MMWEC’s commitment to solar power in conjunction with the state governor’s Commonwealth Solar program.

Additionally, MMWEC plans to work with Evergreen Solar to develop a municipal program that will provide incentives for customers who live in municipal utility communities to purchase solar systems for both residential and commercial installations.

Bradford White, MMWEC’s president, said: MMWEC is excited about working with Evergreen on the installation of demonstration projects in the short-term and in developing a broader involvement in the promotion and installation of solar projects in municipal electric systems. This is the kind of initiative needed to make solar power and other renewable energy resources an integral part of our power supply.
