Chuyen said “The power loss rate in communes is very high, averaging 25 per cent that, if incorporated into the loss rate, will make the 8 per cent for next year impossible to be achieved.”
Dao Minh Hien, head of Power Demand and Supply Balance, Supervision and Planning Division that comes under the Electricity Regulation Department, has requested the EVN to draft a more elaborate proposal that will contain an evaluation of power loss during transmission, power distribution based on different voltage levels and measures to mitigate power loss, and the target for loss in every area.
Vietnam is experiencing extreme losses in power distribution and transmission in comparison to adjoining countries in spite of measures to decrease loss rates. Vietnam has tried to reduce loss rate to less than 10% from 14.5% in 2000, which is more than that of Malaysia and Thailand’s, which is 6%.
