The Dresden Generating Station has three units of which two operating units can generate 1,700MW of electricity that is enough to power about two million average homes.

During the maintenance work, experts will work on the small water tubes in the condenser and also carry out other maintenance activities.

The condenser converts the unused steam into water which is then reused to make steam that is used to spin the turbine.

The unit will resume operations after the maintenance work is completed till then unit 3 of the nuclear generating station will provide electricity.

Unit 1 of the nuclear station was retired in 1978.
