The company will perform maintenance of safety equipment that operates valves located inside the drywell of the Oyster Creek generating station.

During the period, workers will visually inspect the valves and replace components as necessary while the plant is shut down.

Located about 60 miles east of Philadelphia in Ocean County, New Jersey, Oyster Creek plant is capable of 636 net MW of electricity at full power, which is enough electricity to supply 600,000 typical homes.

One of four licensed nuclear power reactors in New Jersey, the Oyster Creek is currently owned and operated by Exelon and is slated to be retired at the end of 2019.
