Exxon Mobil spokeswoman said the pipeline will resume operation once all operational integrity checks have been completed.

The pipeline, which runs from Silver Tip, Montana to Billings, ruptured and leaked about 1000 barrels of oil into Yellowstone River in July, earlier this year.

The pipeline and hazardous materials safety administration (PHMSA) of the department of transportation agency is expected to closely monitor the pipeline’s restart.

Exxon will replace two existing pipeline crossings, as part of the restart agreement, and is carrying out last-minute preparations to resume the 40,000 barrel-a-day pipeline.

Cleanup of pipeline spill estimated at $42.6 million, of which $40m was expected to be spent on emergency response activities.

Exxon will pay $2.5m to reimburse residents for property damage.
