The plant employs ten N90/2500 wind turbines and has an installed capacity of 25 MW, generating approximately 84,000 MWh annually.
The clean energy produced is the equivalent to the energy consumed by 20,500 homes and will save almost 36,000 tonnes of CO2.
This brings Falck’s installed capacity in Scotland to a total of 307 MW over 9 plants.
Confirming the attention directed by the Group to the local communities, the project has allocated support to a local Community Benefit Fund.
The fund will provide grants to support activities that enhance the quality of life for local residents. A wide range of activities will be considered for funding, for example maintenance or refurbishment of community facilities.
Falck Renewables CEO Toni Volpe said: "With the launch of the Assel Valley wind farm we reach, ahead of schedule, the goals that we set earlier this year.
"After today’s opening and the recent openings of two other wind farms (Kingsburn in Scotland and Spaldington in England) our installed capacity in the UK, a country where today we have the largest presence, is 377 MW, and the goal is to achieve 413 MW within first quarter of next year.
"The strong relationship with the local communities continues. Assel Valley, as all our UK plants, will contribute to a Community Fund that will finance a number of relevant initiatives for the local community.”
