Weighing 470t each, the generators are scheduled to be installed during the plant’s routine refueling outage in spring 2014.

Davis-Besse nuclear power station site vice president Ray Lieb said the installation of new steam generators supports the continued safe and reliable operations at the power plant.

"The new steam generators will help ensure that Davis-Besse remains an integral part of northwest Ohio’s economy, and a clean energy source, now and in the future," Lieb added.

The generators will specifically function as heat exchangers, producing the superheated steam that powers the turbine generator, which ultimately produces electricity.

The steam generators were assembled at The Babcock and Wilcox Company’s facility in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, and were shipped across Lake Erie to the Port of Toledo prior to their final delivery to Davis-Besse station.

FENOC also operates the Beaver Valley power station in Shippingport, Pennsylvania, and the Perry nuclear power plant in Perry, Ohio, US.
