Located on the Moapa River Indian Reservation in Clark County, the project being situated within a 2,000-acre segment of the Moapa Band of Paiutes tribal land, will sell its output to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Construction of the project, featuring First Solar Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) thin film solar modules, is likely to begin by the fourth quarter of 2013, with commissioning set for the end of 2015.

The project, which is likely to create up to 400 construction jobs and around 10 permanent operation jobs, will generate enough clean energy to power around 100,000 average homes in its first year of operation.

First Solar CEO Jim Hughes said that the project will significantly contribute to the economic development of the Moapa Paiute tribe and offer clean energy to the city of Los Angeles.

"We’re excited to build on the foundation and hard work of K Road and so many key stakeholders to make this project a reality, establishing a significant source of clean, renewable energy for the region," added Hughes.
