As per the terms of the agreement, First Solar will sell solar electricity, totaling 32MW which is to be generated at the Lost Hills photovoltaic power plant that the company is developing and will construct in Kern County, California.

According to the company, Roseville will receive 100% of the Lost Hills power plant’s output for the first four years of the agreement and will then decline to a smaller percentage of the output.

The 10-year PPA, which is effective in 2015, has been approved by the Roseville City Council.

First Solar noted that the construction on Lost Hills project, which is expected to commence in early 2014, is expected to create around 200 jobs.

Roseville Electric Utility director Michelle Bertolino said, "We are pleased to acquire renewable electricity to help us reach the state’s requirement for 33 percent by 2020.

"As a community-owned utility, contracts such as this help minimize the cost impact on our customers while maintaining highly reliable service."
