The solar power project will use about 150,000 of First Solar’s advanced thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules.

First Solar will provide engineering, procurement and construction services, while WBHO Civil will provide site preparation services, underground electrical services and civil works.

The construction program is scheduled to take place over a period of nearly nine months.

Following civil work, the project will progress to on-site construction of structural supports and the completion of above ground electrical works.

First Solar will begin installation of PV modules in March 2012, and the solar farm is expected to be fully operational by mid-2012.

The Greenough River solar farm is co-owned by Western Australian power utility Verve Energy and GE Energy Financial Services.

The WA Government provides $20m including $10m from the WA Royalties for Regions program.
