First Solar has also agreed to deliver operations and maintenance services for the facility located in Lancaster.

Construction on the facility, which will use First Solar’s thin film photovoltaic modules, is expected to commence before the end of this year and be completed in the third quarter of next year.

The electricity generated by solar facility is enough to serve a yearly average of nearly 25,000 homes, and nearly double that number at maximum capacity during peak hours of the day.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to buy the electricity generated from the solar power project.

The project is expected to offset nearly 1.5 million metric tons of greenhouse gases over 20 years, the equivalent of taking over 15,000 cars off the road annually.
