Located at the Moapa River Indian Reservation north of Las Vegas, the project will supply clean energy to the City of Los Angeles for 25 years, under the power purchase agreement (PPA) with LADWP.

The owner of the project Moapa Southern Paiute Solarm will build the facility in around 2,000 acres by using First Solar’s advanced photovoltaic (PV) thin film solar modules.

The power plant, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2015, will provide solar energy to around 93,000 homes.

First Solar CEO Jim Hughes said the company will provide jobs and significant economic benefits to the Tribe and Clark County by working together and will help LADWP to deliver clean renewable energy to its customers.

"First Solar is thrilled to celebrate this important milestone with Senator Reid and distinguished guests, and honored to work with the Moapa Band of Paiutes on this landmark project," Hughes added.
