The plant will be located on Kamehameha Schools’ Kawailoa Plantation lands near Oahu’s North Shore.
The facility will employ 30 2.3 MW Siemens wind turbines and will have the capacity to generate to power to accommodate the needs of 14,500 homes on the island.
Last year, the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission approved a power purchase agreement between First Wind and the Hawaiian Electric.
First Wind owns and operates two other wind energy projects in Hawaii, reports elp.com.
