The company will spend $383m in Ohio Edison’s 36-county service territory for transmission enhancements, construction of new circuits, and inspection and replacement of utility poles and other equipment.
Ohio Edison regional president Randall Frame said: "In addition to new infrastructure projects, we also place great emphasis on equipment inspections as a way to help reduce the number of outages our customers might experience."
FirstEnergy will invest $281m in The Illuminating Company’s northeast Ohio service territory for installing voltage-regulating equipment, building new substations, rebuilding and upgrading circuits, and the inspecting and replacing utility poles and other equipment.
Around $120m will be spent in Toledo Edison’s eight-county service area in northwest Ohio for the completion of a new transmission substation in the Perrysburg area, continuing work on a new 345kV transmission line, replacing transformers and breakers, and inspecting and replacing utility poles and other equipment.
Of the total investments, $475m will be spent on transmission-related projects owned by FirstEnergy’s subsidiary American Transmission Systems.
