Fluor Corp has been awarded two subcontracts by Westinghouse Electric Co to manage the construction workforce at two Westinghouse AP1000 projects in Georgia and in South Carolina. The first is majority-owned and operated by Georgia Power and the second by SCANA/Santee Cooper. Fluor booked $5bn in contracts in the fourth quarter of 2015.
As a subcontractor to Westinghouse, the prime engineering, procurement and construction contractor, Fluor will manage the majority of construction labour at Georgia Power’s Vogtle 3&4 near Waynesboro, Georgia, and at two additional nuclear units for SCANA/Santee Cooper at the VC Summer nuclear plant in Fairfield County, South Carolina.
Fluor chairman and CEO David Seaton said: "We look forward to working with Westinghouse as one team to complete the construction of these two US nuclear mega-projects," adding that the projects "reconfirm our commitment to the nuclear power industry and are in line with our strategy to expand our construction footprint". Fluor is supporting Westinghouse to quickly transition construction responsibilities, as well as the craft labour and a significant portion of the existing field staff workforce, from the previous contractor.
